US based mobile manufacturer Motorola is trying to improve its market share in India by offering eight new mobile handset models before Diwali. This time instead of its usual basic entrant models, Motorola is planning to launch high end sophisticated/smart phones. Motorola belives rural India is also a potential market for high end phones unlike the general belief that smart phones could be sold only in the urban areas.
According to Malcolm Dawe, VP and GM, Motorola Mobile Devices, India, “People jump to conclusions about the kind of models sold to rural areas. Rural India does have an appetite for lots of features. Moto Yuva brand is one such example of models that are being sold in the rural areas.
