It’s official; Vodafone today confirmed that it will start selling Apple iPhone 8GB model at Rs. 31000 and 16GB model @ Rs. 36100. As per the announcement, those who have pre-registered for the phone, can go to the Vodafone retail outlets today or tomorrow(August 20th/21st) and confirm their booking by paying Rs. 10,000 as an advance. Vodafone then will pass the information about the time and venue for the pickup from August 22nd. Non-Vodafone subscribers have to subscribe to Vodafone first to avail the handset.
Vodafone didnot spellout any details on whether the pricing is for unlocked model or is bundled with data plan. If it is a unlocked phone, ie: there is no contract period and the user can opt for any service provider as their wish, then the pricing is atleast near to the pricing of unlocked phone in US ($550). But if the customer has to signup for the minimum contract data plan in addition, then the price is highly expensive.
Another service provider, Airtel, who is also bringing the handset to India is yet to announce the pricing and is expected to announce before tonight. As per the hearsays, Airtel’s price will also be very close to Vodafone pricing and there will not be any magical pricing from the service provider.
