Trai recommends full talktime on topup cards

Give a big hand to the telecom watchdog, Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for its consistent monitoring and regular consumer friendly directives.

TRAI’s today recommendations are extremely a good news for the 250 million prepaid users across the country. TRAI has asked the mobile service providers to waive the processing charge on the topup cards so that users can enjoy fulltime talk time on topups. As of now after paying fixed charges to obtain the talktime and validaity while recharging,  customers need to pay  the processing fee again while buying additional talktime thru’ topup cards. TRAI finds this double charging as highly  unjustifiable and hence asked the operators to stop charging the processing fee on topup cards. TRAI allows cellular operators to charge a maximum of Rs. 2/recharge as administrative charges and other taxes.

TRAI has also announced slew of other customer friendly initiatives. One among the significant initiatives  is the automatic availability of all the tariff reduction to the subscriber, without any need to approach the operators to include him/her thru’ SMS or call centres. TRAI also recommends operators to allow the lifetime plan customers to migrate into another lifetime plan without any additional payment. Also with this initatives It is enough for the lifetime customers to recharge once in every 6 months.

All the above recommendations are effective from September 15 and applicable to all new and existing prepaid subscribers across the country.
