BSNL mobile TV

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) today announced the launch of its “TV in mobile handset” service in the eastern and north-eastern regions. Customers of BSNL’s GSM service can now watch 12 television channels on their mobile handsets. They include NDTV, CNBC, Aajtak, Times Now, Zoom, Bindaas, ETV, TV9, etc. By the year-end, a total of 32 channels will be incorporated in the service.
While initially the service would be available on select Nokia handsets, the service will be extended to Sony Ericsson and Motorola handsets soon. BSNL has tied up with Apalya Technologies Pvt Ltd, which will provide the contents in the form of TV signals that would be available on BSNL GSM handsets. BSNL customers have to go the mimobi.tv through their mobile phones to view the TV content. The service will be free for the next 30 days. In the next six months, Apalya Technologies would look at introducing user-generated content on mimobi.tv. The company is in talks with other service providers for introducing similar services.
