Blackberry services banned in India ??

blackberry.jpgIts not offcial. but signs are already there. Citing the security concerns, Indian government has rejected the application of Tata telecom services to start blackberry services in India. Now Tata telecom has appealed against this decision asking why they are singled out from providing such services as currently blackberry services are offered by other players including Bharti, Vodafone and Reliance. Reports says that after Tatas appeal to Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Dot sought explanation from other services providers also on stopping this service in India. All the service providers are expected to meet the officials in DoT and Ministry of Home affairs early next week to resolve the issue.

Blackberry is a patented service developed by Canadian based Research In Motion (RIM). This smart phone offers users to access emails on their phone and is being used by number of professionals worldwide. But Indian government considers it as a security threat as blackberrys doesn’t allow any interception of data. Government’s stand on other mobile devices which also allows push mail and other email services is unclear.
