Yahoo’s voice search

Yahoo, the major search ware is one the news again and this time with a great voice. All these days you’ve to browse the web with your keyboard buttons in the PC or the mobile phones. But Yahoo thought different way. The result, web search through voice mail in the mobile. Doesn’t it sound fantastic? That’s yahoo. All that you have to do is to spell the word or term for the search and the rest will be carried out by Yahoo OneSearch. Strictly compatible with the Blackberry Pearl / Blackberry Curve, and 8800 series as like Nokia 60s, oneSearch will offer a devastating novel search experience to the customers. It will deliver answers and desired result in tune with the requisite mobile attributes. According to the briefing laid out by Mitch Lazar, MD of Connected Life Yahoo Europe, the company is looking on the coming generation and as long term visionary aspect, this oneSEarch with voice will ease the access and the browse strains and will considerably reduce the difficulties faced by the consumers.

However, opinions across the tried ones of this oneSearch are varied. Though Yahoo OneSearch with voice is seen to be an ideal software the methodology and applications involved test the patience of the users. The process- the user holds down phone’s ‘talk’ button and receives the words spoken by the user; then words are sent to yahoo Servers which make a text and starts the running of search designed exclusively for the mobile users. The subscribers feel irritated over the results that appear after the search. Yet some subscribers find the applications easy and the results are better than Google’s 1-800-GOOG-411 voice only search option. Since the mobile search is on high rise, it’s no wonder that Yahoo could not keep aloof from the prospective market.

Having overtaken yahoo in terms of PC search and mobile search, Google is facing a stiff competition from yahoo in this mobile search. There’s been an overall  increase in Europe in this mobile search – in the period covering June 2007 – June 2008, Europe faced 50% growth from which France and Spain enjoying the lion’s share, with 69% and 63% respectively. The much hype about this mobile search is that in US it is about 104% to 10 million. In spite of all these hiccups Google is on far-reach from yahoo. The service, a know-it-all type, is an asset to the business group, especially who are on the move. Another major advantage of this OneSearch is that it recognizes and adjusts the voice at ease at overtime. This enables to retry than manually adjusting to other searches.

The main drawback in this oneSearch is that it yields, sometimes and very often too, problems in terms of translating the voice to correct texts. Yahoo’s software is found useful for a routine search, probably day to day affairs, but major information like moonrise or the flight timings are found to be delayed and unreliable. Many users are of the opinion that the interface gets an excellent kick-off for the search, but the results seem to be clumsy and complicated. Search is on to whom to blame for this lapse. Yahoo, or the interface in Blackberry? The voice gets answers swiftly, probably due to the overtaxed network of Verizon or the constrained hardware in Blackberry. Whatever may be the hindrance, it’s Yahoo’s part that takes the major blame. Leaving apart these lapses, the mobile search engine is moving on right direction, with OneSearch voice and it will go hand to hand with the tremendous growth of phone market and wireless market
