DOT to ban Chinese handsets from January 06th

Soon 25 million cheap chinese handsets in India may go DUD. Following the Mumbai terror attack, DOT (Department of Telecom) has issued a directive today to mobile operators to ban handsets without IMEI number. IMEI refers to International Mobile Equipment Identity which the chinese handsets do not have. This number along with sim number is used to track the user by investigation agencies easily. But ... After Airtel, Vodafone and Reliance, now it is Idea cellular's turn. Yep, Idea cellular slashed STD and Roaming rates in par with Vodafone's tariff cut.
