Audio is miserable. 3.0 stars
Overall a good smartphone. I am totally dejected by its audio and speaker quality. Not a good choice for music lovers. Possibly supports MP3 only. Huawei needs to work on its audio quality in upcoming updates.

Superb overall package. Highly commendable. 5.0 stars
The overall package is great. Kirin 710 is very frugal when it comes to battery consumption. The display is a pleasure to consume media. 128 GB of storage feels like freedom. You dont have to constantly worry about memory usage before installing an app or a game or clicking photos or shooting videos or transferring your media from the PC or anywhere else. Just take it, youve got enough space to accommodate a lot of things. One thing people do not talk about is signal reception. This one manages to receive much stronger signals than at least MediaTech powered phones. I have personally seen the difference. In urban conditions, this is not a noticeable difference, but in semi urban conditions theres a difference and one can measure it. Camera is awesome! You got dual cameras both on the front and the rear. Manual mode can work magic. Since the Huawei camera software allows you to edit everything from metering to focus and White balance to exposure to shutter speed manually, one can shoot some great photos in the manual mode. Huawei Nova 3i had a night mode much before Googles Night Sight and the results were nothing short of amazing. The caveat being the phone needs to be placed of a pedestal or tripod for absolute stability, since there no stabilisation on offer. There are many other features in the camera like wide aperture mode, where you can change aperture even after shooting the picture and apply amazing effects like coloured foreground and black and white background. Then there are the light painting modes like star trails, traffic trails, waterfall, light graffiti, et al. Theres a fun selection of Qmojis. The camera app allows you to change the background of your selfie, so you can shoot a picture at the Big Ben and change the background to Taj Mahal, or your living room. Good feature to deceive your boss when you want to go for that football match on the premise of being sick. Sound output through the 3.5mm Jack on to external speakers is a bit of a compromise and micro USB at 21k isnt very desirable. Sound to earphones, particularly with Histen sound profiles is pretty good and crisp. The performance, its fairly lag free and EMUI 8.2 works fairly well and doesnt really leave you wanting for a pure Android experience as you can get it to behave it almost like that. Also EMUI does come with some bloatware but you can either uninstall them (yes that option is there for most bloats) or some turn out to be pretty useful and some others are not very intrusive so you might not notice them. So as such, performance of the phone doesnt really leave you asking for more. But Huawei have themselves cannibalized this phone with the Honor 8x, Honor 10 lite and now the Huawei Y9.
